Couple lounging comfortably at home

How to keep your Orrville home comfortable this winter

The dipping temperatures in Orrville aren’t going anywhere, and while it’s easy to daydream about the warmer temperatures, it’s crucial to remember that you can remain just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a large role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to schedule annual furnace service.

We do have to bring up the fact that there aren’t many things that will contribute as much to your comfort this year as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be done annually. After all, who wants to spend a long winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them comfortable the whole time?

Already check off your annual furnace service? Here are a couple other things you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — most energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You might be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors permit the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you can still have air making its way inside. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be letting cold air inside. If you find any problems, weatherstripping is basic to switch out and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks could be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they could be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These three tips are just a starting point, but do note that there are other simple fixes you can complete once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to do on the weekend.
