How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other pointers, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying comfy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can accumulate around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still being comfortable. Whenever possible, use other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think turning your unit off completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to early system failure.
